WSU MRS Chapter Constitution


Name of Organization: 
Washington State University Materials Research Society Student Chapter (WSU MRS)

Purpose and Objective: 
To give all WSU graduate students whose field of research hinges on material properties the opportunity to better both the social and intellectual environment of all graduate students and also outreach to the community to improve the understanding of materials.

Qualifications for Membership:
Full voting members:  Currently enrolled WSU students.
Associate non-voting members: WSU Faculty/Staff, University of Idaho students
To maintain membership, all members must participate on a club committee. 
The Materials Research Society Student Chapter is open to all students regardless of race; religion; sex; age; color; creed; national or ethnic origin; physical, mental or sensory disability; marital status; sexual orientation; and status as a Vietnam-era or disabled veteran.

The balance of this club’s FS&A account will never be allowed to be overdrawn. 


Officers:
All officers must be members of the Materials Research Society and will be elected by a simple majority of members two weeks prior to the end of the Spring Semester.
President- The President will work with the faculty advisor to plan all programs and activities and preside over meetings.   He/She is responsible for all club communication with the Materials Research Society.  The President is responsible for submitting the yearly report to MRS by June 15 of each year he/she is in office.
Vice-President- The Vice President will assist the president and the faculty advisor and take the place of the President in his/her absence.  He/She is responsible for making sure that the club maintains its status as a Registered Student Organization. 
Secretary- The Secretary will keep written records of meetings and activities as well as maintain an up-to-date album of photos taken during activities.  In addition, he/she is in charge of maintaining the club email account and emailing minutes. 
Treasurer- The Treasurer will collect membership dues, deposit dues and other income in the Controller’s Office and keep a record of current RSO funds.  He/She will report on these to the club at each of the meetings.  The Treasurer is responsible for submitting the financial statement to MRS by April 1 of each year he/she is in office.
Yearly MRS Reports:
By April 1 of each year, the University Chapter shall submit to the Society a brief financial statement including total revenues and expenditures for the prior calendar year, and the current balance.  Submitting the report is the responsibility of the Treasurer.
By June 15 of each year, the University Chapter shall submit to the Society a summary of University Chapter activities for the previous academic year (June 1 through May 31) including the number of meetings held, a list of newly elected officers, the number of current Chapter members, and a notice of significant meetings for the current academic year.  All officers, newly elected and old, must help prepare the end of the year report to MRS. The previous year’s officers are responsible for writing and submitting the report, and the newly elected officers are responsible for proof-reading the report.  Submitting the report is the responsibility of the previous year’s president.
 Parliamentary Procedures:
Revision of the constitution and/or addition of amendments will be voted on by a ¾ majority of currently enrolled WSU students only (Members).
The President will vote only in case of a tie vote.
The Advisor, associate members and honorary members will not vote or hold office.
